Are The Highway Code Stopping Distances Rubbish?

With the changes to UK speeding fines coming into place, it got us thinking about speed limits and the Highway Code stopping distances. How accurate are they? Do we really need to be limited to just 70mph? Below is what the Highways Code thinks the stopping distances are.

If you see our Brembo article here, you can see that even cars at the bottom of the list, pulled up in 33.5m. That’s Well under half what they highway code suggests. The video below illustrates my point further… 

Admittedly these cars are performance orientated, so it’s understandable that they are a bit quicker to stop than ‘normal’ cars. But even so, do we really need 96m to stop from 70? should the speed limit be raised?
