Hybrids Will Be Exempt From The 2040 Petrol & Diesel Ban

For those who have been living under a rock for the last few days, the British government has declared war on the petrolhead (in my eyes anyway). They have decided that by 2040, all sales of new petrol and diesel cars will be banned. Well, you can now breathe a sigh of relief because they have confirmed hybrids will be exempt from the ban.

Both plug in and self-sufficient hybrids will be excluded and that goes for both fuel types, so Peugeot can carry on making diesel hybrids if they so wish. But more importantly for folks like us, this news means that cars like the LaFerrari and Porsche 918 will be allowed. How expensive they will be to run however, is a very different matter. There’s lots of talk about raising taxes to punish us petrolheads persuade people to move to more environmentally friendly means of transport.

Are you excited or scared for the future of cars?
